Flood recovery grants

Like many communities, Waverley has recently faced the challenges posed by Storm Henk, with severe flooding in various areas.

To help homes and businesses in the recovery and restoration of their homes and properties following the recent adverse weather, grants are available under the government's Flood Recovery Framework for those severely affected.

The funds provided through this framework aim to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with recovery and help our community rebuild stronger and more resilient. They are not a substitute for an insurance claim, which must be made separately.

Information about the grants you can apply for via the borough council can be found in the sections below.

Details of other grants available, such as the Farming Recovery Fund, can be found on the Surrey County Council website.

Community Recovery Grant

Households can apply for up to £500 cash to help with immediate costs.

Council Tax Discounts

Households could be eligible for 100% council tax relief for at least three months.

Property Flood Resilience scheme

Eligible flood-hit property owners can apply for up to £5,000 to help make homes and businesses more resilient to future flooding. This will be administered by Surrey County Council.

Eligibility for these grants

You can get funding support if you were flooded between 2 and 12 January 2024, if you meet one of the following two criteria:

  1. Flood water entered the habitable part of your main residential property
  2. Flood water did not enter into habitable areas, but the local authority regards that the residence was otherwise considered unliveable for a period of 48 hours or more*

A property may be considered unliveable where:

  • access to the property was severely restricted (e.g. residents trapped in upper floor flats by flood water)
  • key services such as sewerage, water and power supplies were severely affected
  • the property was affected by sewage flooding
  • the storm caused so much damage to the property that it would have been advisable for anyone living there to vacate the property, regardless of whether they did so or not.

*Only properties flooded internally are eligible for the Property Flood Resilience Grant.
