Notice of intention

Under the new planning systemthe Council must publish a Notice of Intention to commence Local Plan preparation. The Notice marks the start of the formal plan-making process and must be issued before or at the same time as the Scoping Consultation, which is the first stage of consultation. The purpose of the Notice is to ensure communities and stakeholders understand when and how they can get involved in preparing the new Local Plan.

The Notice of Intention to commence Local Plan preparation

In accordance with Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026, Waverley Borough Council gives notice of its intention to commence preparation of the Waverley Local Plan.

Name of the Local Planning Authority: Waverley Borough Council

Area covered by the plan: The Waverley Local Plan will cover the entire administrative area of Waverley Borough (ONS code E07000216). The boundary is shown on the map.

Title of the plan: The Waverley Local Plan

The Local Plan timetable: A Local Plan timetable has been prepared in line with the regulations. It sets out the key stages and timescales for preparing the Waverley Local Plan.

The Council expects to formally begin the preparation of the Waverley Local Plan under the new plan-making system after it has passed through its self-assessment (Gateway 1) in October 2026.
