We collect stray dogs which have been captured or tied up. We cannot catch loose dogs. The dog must have been both found and currently located within the Waverley Borough Council area.

What is a stray dog?
A stray dog is defined as 'any unattended dog in a public place' and a public place means on the highway or any other place to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access.
I have found a stray dog and wish to keep it
You can choose to keep the dog if SDK's dog warden finds that your home is suitable. You must be willing to keep the dog for at least one month, after which you can choose to keep it or rehome it. The legal title of the dog will remain with its original owner.
By law, all dogs must:
- be microchipped and registered to an approved database
- wear a collar and tag giving the owner's name, address and telephone number. This still applies despite the requirement for microchipping your dog.
A dangerous dog is either a member of a breed that has been defined as a dangerous dog in legislation or it is a dog that is out of control and may have attacked someone causing physical injury. Please report dangerous dogs to the Police on 101.
