Community litter picking

If you want to organise a group litter pick, please ensure you follow the guidelines below.

Due to staff shortages, we can't support community litter picks at this time.  However, we hope to resume the loan of litter picking equipment again soon.

Guidelines for safe litter picking

We want you to be safe, secure and legal whilst litter picking.

  • Covid -19 is still with us, so please follow the government guidance on social distancing: Coronavirus (COVID-19): guidance and support - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • You should only litter pick in public areas, otherwise you could be trespassing.
  • You cannot litter pick on A-Roads and the surrounding verges, due to the hazards posed by fast traffic.
  • Anyone litter picking does so at their own risk but should still avoid items such as sharps, broken glass, large heavy items, asbestos and any other potentially hazardous item.
  • Dispose of litter safely in litter bins, at home or at your nearest community recycling centre. Remember that placing things next to or top of full litter bins counts as fly-tipping. To report an overflowing litter bin please visit our Report an overflowing bin page.
  • If you believe larger amounts of rubbish has been fly tipped,  please Report fly-tipping online
