Local issues and community reports

We are committed to supporting open communication and transparency on matters that affect local residents. This page brings together council-commissioned reviews and reports that respond to community concerns about safety, accessibility, and local development. You will find the latest community reports here, including independent assessments, public consultation summaries, and safety reviews carried out with partner agencies such as Surrey Police.

Current focus: Community safety and accessibility

We regularly work with residents, councillors, planning officers, and community partners to review local spaces and routes that raise safety or design concerns. These reports aim to identify practical solutions, shared responsibilities, and long-term improvements across Waverley.

Typical topics include:

  • Public footpaths and bridleways
  • Community safety initiatives
  • Accessibility and lighting improvements
  • Environmental design and secure development planning

Featured report: Bridleway Six site review, Godalming

In September 2025, in response to concerns from local residents, Councillor Paul Follows and Councillor Victoria Kiehl, Ward Councillors for Godalming Central and Ockford, commissioned an independent Site Review of Bridleway Six, led by a Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) from Surrey Police.

This assessment responded to resident feedback about safety and visibility along the route connecting Aarons Hill, Ockford Park, and Godalming railway station. The report provides detailed findings from daytime and evening reviews and recommends community-based safety measures.

Key highlights include:

  • No recent recorded crime but ongoing concern from residents about isolation at night
  • Recommendations for improved lighting and visibility, community patrols, and collaboration with local developers
  • Suggestions for a neighbourhood-led approach to safety, inspired by successful models such as the Canal Watch initiative
