Waverley Portal

What is the Waverley Portal?

The Waverley Portal is home to many of our online services, allowing you to complete tasks such as applying for services, making payments or reporting issues any time, anywhere.

Do I have to register for a portal account to access services?

The vast majority of our online services are accessible without a portal account.

You will need a portal account for:

  • Viewing your housing rent account online
  • Creating and managing your garden waste collection service - only valid for residents who signed up to the service as of 05/01/2023

What are the benefits of signing up to the portal?

Signing up to the portal makes it quicker and easier to complete online forms, by pre-populating some of your information using your portal account details and providing the ability to save forms and return to them at a later date.

Are there any online services that I can't access via the Waverley Portal?

Some of our Council Tax and Business Rates forms are on a different site, known as OPENPortal - you will need to register for this separately:

Your personal data

To set up a portal account, we use email verification to ensure that the person creating the account has access to the provided email address. This process helps prevent unauthorised access and protects your personal data. Additionally, each email address can only be associated with one account for security reasons.

If you forget your password, a verified email allows us to securely send password reset instructions. Although we may already have your details from other services (e.g. as a Council Tax payer), this information cannot be used to verify your email address or pre-fill your registration data.

We are carrying out a number of updates to the portal login process this autumn, aimed at further enhancing the security of the system and users' data.

New password requirement

When logging in for the first time after our security updates (you will only need to do this once), you will be prompted to create a new password that complies with our updated security policy. Your new password must be at least 10 characters long and include:

  • At least 1 UPPERCASE letter
  • At least 1 lowercase letter
  • At least 1 number
  • At least 1 special character

It is advised to use three unrelated words for stronger passwords - avoid reusing a password you use elsewhere.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA will become mandatory for accessing your portal account.

Each time you log in, you will receive a six-digit code via email. Enter this code on the provided webpage to complete the login process.

We will never ask you for your password or MFA code, nor request remote access to your computer or phone.

If you receive any communication purporting to be from Waverley Borough Council asking for any of these details, please report it to us by calling 01483 523333.

Why are these changes being introduced?

Two-factor authentication provides an additional measure of security for your portal account and helps protect against phishing.

Using three unrelated words for a password complies with National Cyber Security Centre guidance.
