Team Waverley calls out for votes to bag a share of Tesco's Community Fund

Team Waverley are bidding to bag a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco works with Groundwork to run its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £2,000, £1,000 and £500 awarded to local community projects.  Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Team Waverley’s entry in the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is one of the groups on the shortlist.

The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is the largest annual youth sports festival in the county, with more than 2,000 competitors taking part every year. The event is suitable for anyone between the ages of 7 to 16 who wants to learn a new sport or develop skills with qualified local coaches. The main aim of the games is to encourage young people to develop their sporting skills and promote physical activity and fair play in sport.

In 2019 Waverley had nearly 150 registrations from young people in the borough who attended training sessions. More than 100 of those participants were selected to represent Team Waverley during the weekend competition.
