Waverley pays tribute to Armed Forces

The Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Penny Rivers, and representatives from both Waverley Borough Council and Godalming Town Council, showed their support for the military community as the Armed Forces Day Flag was raised outside the council offices in Godalming, in celebration of Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday 29 June 2025.

The Mayor paid tribute to the British Armed Forces for their dedication, courage, and service in protecting the UK and supporting peace and security around the world. She was joined by fellow councillors and council staff as well as members of Godalming Town Council as the flag was raised in a show of solidarity and gratitude.

Armed Forces Day is a national occasion to honour the men and women of the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force - including those currently serving, veterans, reservists, cadets, and service families.

Communities across the UK are encouraged to take part by flying the flag, attending local events, and sharing messages of support on social media using the hashtag #SaluteOurForces.

Councillor Penny Rivers, The Mayor of Waverley, said:

“Raising the Armed Forces Flag is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve to protect our freedoms. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude, and this flag is a symbol of our enduring respect and appreciation.”
