We are carrying out a number of updates to the portal login process this autumn, aimed at further enhancing the security of the system and users' data.
New password requirement
When logging in for the first time after our security updates (you will only need to do this once), you will be prompted to create a new password that complies with our updated security policy. Your new password must be at least 10 characters long and include:
- At least 1 UPPERCASE letter
- At least 1 lowercase letter
- At least 1 number
- At least 1 special character
It is advised to use three unrelated words for stronger passwords - avoid reusing a password you use elsewhere.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
MFA will become mandatory for accessing your portal account.
Each time you log in, you will receive a six-digit code via email. Enter this code on the provided webpage to complete the login process.
We will never ask you for your password or MFA code, nor request remote access to your computer or phone.
If you receive any communication purporting to be from Waverley Borough Council asking for any of these details, please report it to us by calling 01483 523333.
Why are these changes being introduced?
Two-factor authentication provides an additional measure of security for your portal account and helps protect against phishing.
Using three unrelated words for a password complies with National Cyber Security Centre guidance.
