Waverley pays tribute to The Fallen this Remembrance Sunday

Tributes will be paid throughout Waverley over the Remembrance weekend in honour of those who have served their country in armed conflict. This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday, 9 November, the closest Sunday to Armistice Day on 11 November, which marks the end of First World War hostilities in 1918.

It is a national day to remember and honour the servicemen and women who lost their lives.

The Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Penny Rivers, will lay a wreath on behalf of the council at the Godalming War Memorial.

Councillor Rivers said:

“Remembrance Sunday is a time for reflection, gratitude and unity. We come together to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who gave everything for our freedom and continue to do so in conflicts around the world. Their legacy lives on in our communities, and we will continue to remember with pride and respect.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
