Waverley Adopts Local Plan Part 2

Councillors voted to adopt Local Plan Part 2 (LPP2) at the March Full Council meeting. This followed immediately after an Extraordinary Executive meeting, at which the council’s Executive recommended the Local Plan to Council for adoption.

LPP2 is the second part of the council’s two-part Local Plan and provides an up-to-date suite of development management policies and specific site allocations to boost the supply of new housing locally. It will put the borough in a stronger position to defend planning decisions at appeal, and help to secure funding for infrastructure necessary to support the growth ambitions of the borough.

The Plan has been developed through extensive consultation with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure that it reflects the needs and aspirations of the local community.

The adoption of LPP2 follows the Inspector’s decision on 13 March 2023 to support Waverley Borough Council’s position on all the main issues.

Waverley Borough Council Executive Head of Planning Policy and Regeneration, Abi Lewis, said,

“I’m delighted with the outcome of the meeting and the successful adoption of LPP2, which will form part of the overall development plan. This strengthens planning and development in the borough, and I’d like to thank the team for their incredibly hard work to get us here. We have listened carefully to the views of residents and businesses, and have worked to ensure that the Plan reflects their priorities and aspirations for the area.

“The Local Plan provides a clear framework for future development, which will help to ensure that new development is appropriate and sustainable. It will also help to support economic growth and create new job opportunities, while protecting our natural environment and heritage."

The Inspector’s report is available on the LPP2 section of the website.
