Congratulations to Farnham - Council of the Year

Waverley Borough Council has sent its congratulations to Farnham Town Council which has scooped the title Council of the Year.

The town council came out top, having featured among five councils shortlisted from nearly 12,000 throughout the UK,  to take the crown at the National Association of Local Councils Star Awards 2021. The council’s town clerk, Iain Lynch, was also runner-up in the Clerk of the Year category.

Farnham lies within the borough of Waverley and the accolade is recognition for the hard work that has gone into serving its residents.

Mayor of Waverley Councillor John Robini said: “We are really proud of what Farnham Town Council has achieved, especially in terms of how it has managed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a real champion for the community it serves.

“Officers and staff have really pulled out all the stops over the last year and,  when so many events were being cancelled, Farnham Town Council staff went far and above their duty to provide for the community. With events like Music in the Meadow helping to bring cheer to visitors and residents, for example, and ensuring the Christmas lights switch on went ahead as normal,  despite dreadful rainy weather. The council has been a beacon of hope for the town and outer villages during what has been a terribly sad time. There have been so many messages of gratitude from local people who felt that the Farnham community was reaching out to them in their isolation.”
