Have your say on Waverley’s taxi licensing policy

Waverley Borough Council is seeking views on proposed updates to its Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy and its application process.

The council is reviewing its policy to reflect changes over the last couple of years and to ensure it’s doing everything possible to keep residents and drivers safe.
 
The policy was last updated in 2018. A number of the changes proposed in this revision result from the Climate Emergency declared by the council in September last year.
 
For example, in a bid to lower vehicle emissions, the council is proposing a policy on vehicle age. In future, new taxi licenses will only be issued to vehicles under three years old. From 2023, all new licensed vehicles will be required to be ultra-low emissions and by 2030 all licensed vehicles will be ultra-low emissions.
 
Regulations are also being tightened to ensure mini-cab operators maintain a register of all staff who have contact with the public and can provide evidence they have been DBS checked.
