Nominations have closed for the 2 May local council elections in Waverley.
A full list of candidates in each ward is available in the Statements of Persons Nominated published on Waverley’s website at: www.waverley.gov.uk/elections2019. A Notice of Uncontested Poll indicates those wards that are uncontested and the candidates duly elected without the need for a poll to be held.
Prospective candidates had until 4pm on Wednesday 3 April to submit their nomination forms and voters can now find out who is standing in their ward and start thinking about their vote – if they haven’t already.
Waverley Borough Council Returning officer Tom Horwood said: “The election is less than a month away, so for voters, the next step is to make sure you’re registered to vote and, if you’re planning to be away from home on 2 May, organise a postal or proxy vote. We have lots of information on our website about all aspects of the election, including forms to apply for a postal or proxy vote. I particularly encourage first-time voters to take a look as we have lots of useful links about voting, finding your polling station and how the council works.
“We have been working hard to ensure that all residents are registered to vote but if you have had a recent change in circumstances – such as a change of address – you may not be registered for your current address. The deadline for registering to vote is midnight on Friday 12 April 2019. You can do it online at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You do not need to register again if your details have not changed since the last canvass.
“The deadline for registering for a postal vote is 5pm Monday 15 April 2019 and to appoint someone else to vote on your behalf (proxy vote) is 5pm on 24 April.”
The Electoral Commission and Mencap have produced an easy-to-read guide to registering and voting for those with a learning disability. Download it at: www.mencap.org.uk/easy-read-guide-voting-local-elections
