Our team of Young Ambassadors for The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games 2020 met up this week to celebrate becoming representatives for the games, which take place on 13 and 14 June at Surrey Sports Park.
The evening presented an opportunity for the team to get to know each other, to find out more about their role and to meet elite sports stars Chris Finill, member of the Ever Present who has completed every London Marathon since the inaugural race back in 1981, Mark England, Director of Sport Services at Team GB and Dan Fox, past Olympic GB Hockey Player.
Young Ambassadors play an important role in promoting the games in and out of school with friends and family but it also provides young people with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and represent the best of sporting in Waverley.
If you want to take part in the games there are many ways you can do so. If you’re aged between six and 16, live or go to school in Waverley why not go for gold and take advantage of the free sports training on offer.
Weekly training sessions start in April and include sports such as girl’s football, boccia, table tennis and hockey. Sessions are free and run by qualified coaches who are keen to inspire more young people to get involved in the games.
The games are the biggest sporting event for youngsters in Surrey and are a chance for children to learn a new sport for free, develop their skills and represent the borough.
