Waverley pays tribute to Councillor John Robini

Waverley Borough Council has paid tribute to Councillor John Robini, who has sadly passed away.

As a mark of respect, the flag at The Burys will be flying at half‑mast next week.

John dedicated many years of his life to public service and to the communities he represented. After moving to Witley in the early 1970s, he became deeply involved in local community life, serving as Chairman of Witley Parish Council before being elected to Waverley Borough Council in 2003. During his time on the council’s Executive, he held responsibility for community safety, young people, older residents and car parks.

Following his move to Haslemere, John continued his commitment to local democracy. He was elected to Haslemere Town Council and Waverley Borough Council in 2019, and was re‑elected to Haslemere Town Council in the 2023 local elections. John also served residents at county level as a Surrey County Councillor.

The Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Penny Rivers, said:

“Since being elected as ward councillor for Haslemere West, Councillor Robini worked tirelessly on behalf of local residents.

"He made a significant contribution to the borough, previously serving on the former Executive and more recently as a highly respected member of the Policy Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Western Planning Committee and the Surrey County Council Local Committee."

John was also deeply committed to public service beyond his council roles. A former member of Surrey Police, he represented Waverley on Sport Haslemere and served on the Surrey Police and Crime Panel. Outside public life, he enjoyed gardening, photography and walking, and was a long‑standing supporter of Woking Football Club.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.
