Waverley businesses invited to join new ‘Go Green for Business’ Support Scheme

Waverley Borough Council has launched an exciting new pilot scheme in partnership with sustainability experts Green Mark, aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) reduce their environmental impact and grow sustainably.

The Go Green for Business Support Scheme offers local businesses with up to 50 employees the opportunity to gain free access to Green Mark’s internationally recognised Environmental Accreditation. Through this initiative, 15 selected businesses will receive full funding from the Council to participate - making it a unique chance to boost their green credentials at no cost.

Applications open Monday 15 September and will be open for three weeks.

Participating businesses will benefit from a structured framework to assess and improve environmental performance, access to sustainability professions for tailored support as well as downloadable templates, guidance notes and help files.  They will also receive a certification pack including badges and certificates for display.

The accreditation process is designed to be accessible and efficient, requiring just 8 -12 hours over six weeks. Businesses will be supported throughout the 12-month journey to achieve measurable improvements in sustainability, reduce energy costs, and enhance customer engagement.

Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, said:

“We’re proud to support our local businesses in making meaningful strides toward sustainability. The Go Green for Business scheme is a fantastic opportunity to not only reduce environmental impact but also unlock the economic benefits that come with going green. We encourage all eligible businesses to apply and be part of a greener future for Waverley.”

Councillor Steve Williams, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, added:

“Supporting our local businesses to become more sustainable is a key part of Waverley’s commitment to tackling climate change. The Go Green for Business scheme not only empowers SMEs to reduce their environmental impact but also contributes directly to our borough-wide climate action plan. By helping businesses cut carbon and operate more efficiently, we’re building a greener, more resilient local economy - one that benefits both our communities and the planet.”
