Waverley Borough Council welcomes first new affordable homes in Chiddingfold

Waverley Borough Council has officially taken ownership of the first two homes in a new development of 26 affordable properties in Chiddingfold. The newly completed semi-detached houses at Turners Mead mark a major milestone in the council’s commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes for local residents.

Providing genuinely affordable housing is a top priority for the council, and these new homes are designed to meet that goal — offering sustainable living at rent levels that local people can realistically afford. All 26 homes are being constructed by Feltham Construction on brownfield land, making efficient use of previously developed sites and helping to protect the borough’s green spaces from further development.

The first two properties, now ready for residents to move into, stand on the site of five disused and dilapidated lock-up garages. This transformation has not only brought the land back into productive use but also significantly enhanced the local streetscape.

Built with the latest energy-saving and sustainable technologies, the homes feature air-source heat pumps, rooftop photovoltaic (solar) panels to generate electricity, and enhanced insulation throughout. These measures contribute to the properties achieving an impressive energy efficiency rating of A — helping tenants reduce their energy bills and their carbon footprint.

Located at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac with scenic views of surrounding fields, the homes offer generously sized rooms that exceed national minimum space standards. Each property includes a fully fitted kitchen, laminate flooring throughout the ground floor, and carpet in the bedrooms, on the stairs, and along the landing.

Residents will also enjoy private landscaped gardens at the front and rear, complete with a secure, lockable garden shed for additional storage.

Councillor Janet Crowe, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing Delivery said:

"These new homes represent just what we want to achieve in Waverley — sustainable, high-quality housing that meets the real needs of our communities. By regenerating underused sites like this, we’re not only building places people can be proud to live in but also protecting our countryside and working towards our climate goals. I'm excited for the families moving in and look forward to seeing the rest of the development take shape over the coming year."

Construction continues on the remaining 24 affordable homes across four sites in Chiddingfold, with all properties expected to be completed by 2025.

Guy Thomas, Construction Manager for Feltham Construction said:

“Feltham Construction thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Waverley and their team to deliver these properties. Despite facing some logistical challenges, the build went as planned, and we’d like to thank all the neighbours for their patience and understanding during the build. We now look forward to delivering the remaining 24 properties across the village of Chiddingfold”.
