Plans are underway for a new skatepark, with the location confirmed and the new facility expected to open in early 2027, subject to planning permission being granted.
Waverley Borough Council has confirmed plans to build a new skatepark in Cranleigh, giving skaters, BMX riders, scooters, and rollerbladers a better place to ride.
The new skatepark will be a modern, high-quality design, built to Sport England standards, and offer free opportunities for informal exercise and socialising in the community.
It will be located on the green space just north of Snoxhall Fields and east of Knowle Lane, just a short walk from the old skatepark and Cranleigh Leisure Centre, previously in the ownership of the Cranleigh Village Health Trust.
The move to a new location is a key part of the wider regeneration plans for the area. It will allow the current skatepark site to be used in the construction of the new Cranleigh Leisure Centre, creating space for improved community facilities across the borough.
Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development at Waverley Borough Council, Councillor Liz Townsend said: "We’re very excited to be delivering a new skatepark for Cranleigh that meets the needs of our growing community. I’m delighted that we have been able to secure a new central location that gives us the opportunity to create an inspiring recreational space for residents to meet and enjoy outdoor activity."
The Council is committed to involving residents in the project. The next steps include engaging with skaters and local people on the design, submitting a planning application, and getting a contractor on board.
