Plans for a brand-new pump track at Sandy Hill in Farnham have been warmly welcomed by the local community, following a public unveiling of the final design earlier this month.
Waverley Borough Council has commissioned specialist designers On Track to create and build the new facility, which will offer a fun, high-energy space for riders of all ages and abilities. The final design was revealed at a community drop-in event on Thursday 8 January, where residents had the chance to see the plans, ask questions and find out more about the project.
The design has been shaped directly by public feedback. During the first consultation session before Christmas, residents were invited to choose between two options, a ‘classic’ pump track and a ‘progressive’ layout. There was a strong preference for the progressive design, and this has now been developed into the final plans.
The new track will feature multiple routes of varying complexity, much like ski runs, allowing beginners to get started with confidence while offering more challenging lines for experienced riders. This means users can return again and again, building their skills over time.
The layout includes a range of exciting features, such as berms, rollers, progressive hip jumps, a step-up and step-down quad, a jump box and a quarter pipe with fly-out, creating a dynamic, flowing course that’s both accessible and thrilling to ride.
With a budget of £130,000, the project represents a significant investment in local leisure facilities by the council. A planning application for the new pump track will be submitted early next week and, subject to planning permission, work is expected to start on site in late Spring, with the track ready to ride by mid-Summer.
Councillor Kika Mirylees, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Leisure and EDI, said:
“It’s brilliant to see the Sandy Hill Pump Track taking shape and to be able to share the final design that residents helped create. The enthusiasm we’ve had from the community has been fantastic, and it’s clear how much people care about having a space that’s fun, welcoming and built for everyone.
“This progressive track has something for riders at every level, whether you’re just starting out or looking for a new challenge, and it’s designed so people can build confidence and skills over time. It’s going to be an exciting, energetic place that adds real value to Farnham.
“We’re proud to be investing in a facility that encourages people to get outside, be active and enjoy their neighbourhood. Having been involved from the inception of the track, along with one of the members of the Sandy Hill community, I can’t wait to see it come to life and watch riders of all ages making the most of it.”
The Sandy Hill Pump Track is set to become a vibrant new destination for the area, offering a safe, inclusive and exhilarating place for people to ride, learn and have fun together.
