Have your say on the Godalming Navigations Conservation Area Appraisal

Waverley Borough Council is inviting residents, landowners and stakeholders to comment on a draft Conservation Area Appraisal for the Godalming Navigations Conservation Area.

The conservation area covers the historic waterway and its surrounding floodplain. The draft appraisal assesses the area’s special architectural and historic character, reviews its current condition, and identifies opportunities to enhance and protect it for the future.

The council is keen to hear a wide range of views to help ensure the conservation area is preserved and sensitively managed for future generations.

The consultation runs from Monday 12 January 2026 to Friday 20 February 2026. The draft appraisal can be viewed online, and comments submitted, at www.waverley.gov.uk/conservation

A public meeting will also be held to give members of the community an opportunity to ask questions and comment on the document. This will take place on Thursday 22 January 2026 at 7pm, at Waverley Borough Council offices, The Burys, Godalming, GU7 1HR. Those wishing to attend are asked to email heritage@waverley.gov.uk in advance.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, said:

“The Godalming Navigations are a valued part of our borough’s heritage and landscape. This appraisal is an important step in understanding what makes the area special and how we can protect and enhance it for the future. I would encourage everyone with an interest in the Navigations to take part in the consultation and share their views.”

Hard copies of the appraisal are available on request. Comments can be submitted via the online questionnaire, by email to heritage@waverley.gov.uk or by post to Planning Policy, Waverley Borough Council, The Burys, Godalming, GU7 1HR.
