Council pledge continued support for Cranleigh ‘Hospital hoppa’ service

Waverley Borough Council are pleased to award a further grant to support the continuation of the Cranleigh ‘Hospital hoppa’, a much-valued service that helps residents get to essential medical appointments safely and affordably.

This years’ service is jointly funded by Waverley Borough Council, Cranleigh Lions, the Friends of Cranleigh Village Hospital and the Luigi Franceson Trust.

The Hospital hoppa provides a door‑to‑door service to a range of health facilities, not just hospitals, operating Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. The service is fully accessible, ensuring people using wheelchairs, mobility aids or pushchairs can travel comfortably. Carers or companions are also welcome to travel.

Customers can also enjoy peace of mind: if their hospital or healthcare appointment is delayed, hoppa will wait for them.

The service is available to anyone living in the Waverley area who does not have access to other suitable or affordable transport, helping ensure that no one misses vital care because they cannot get there.

Residents can register online or by phone, free of charge, and once registered can book journeys as needed.

hoppa is a local Waverley‑based charity that provides a range of flexible community transport services, enabling people across the borough to stay connected, independent and active.

Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Waverley Borough Councillor for Cranleigh West and Deputy Leader of the council, who worked with hoppa to bring the initiative to fruition, said: “We’re very pleased to continue supporting this service, which remains a vital lifeline for many local people, particularly at a time when the cost of travelling to hospital can add extra worry. It’s a fantastic example of local organisations working together to deliver something truly meaningful for our community.”

Councillor Kika Mirylees, Waverley Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Leisure and EDI, added “We are very pleased to be able to support the Cranleigh Hospital hoppa service for another year. This partnership funding helps ensure that residents who might otherwise struggle to reach medical appointments have a reliable, friendly and accessible transport option. The Hospital hoppa continues to make a real difference to people’s daily lives, and we are incredibly grateful to the local organisations who have joined us in funding this much‑valued service.”
