We offer a free kerbside collection service for small electrical items, unwanted textiles and household batteries. This service helps you recycle more, reduce waste, and dispose of items responsibly.
You can book a collection online or by phone, and your items will be picked up by our waste contractor, Biffa, on your agreed collection day.
How the service works
You can request a free collection of:
- small electrical items
- unwanted or worn textiles
- household batteries (bagged separately)
Once you submit your request, Biffa will confirm your collection date after processing your booking. Items must be placed outside by 6am on the agreed day, next to your food waste caddy.

What we collect
Small electrical items
We collect small, broken or unwanted electricals that have a plug, cable or battery compartment.
Examples include:
- kettles, toasters and small kitchen appliances
- hairdryers, straighteners and grooming devices
- remote controls, toys and gadgets
- phones, chargers and small electronic accessories
Textiles
We accept clean, dry textiles such as:
- clothing
- paired shoes
- bed linen and towels
- curtains, duvets covers and pillow cases
- accessories (e.g., hats, scarves, belts)
Household batteries
Household batteries can be recycled as part of this service. Please bag batteries separately from electricals and textiles.
What we cannot collect
Some items are not suitable for this service.
These include:
- large electrical appliances (e.g., fridges, washing machines)
- light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
- carpets, rugs and duvets
- wet or heavily soiled textiles
- commercial waste or business items
For items we cannot collect, please use your nearest Community Recycling Centre or local reuse organisations.
How to prepare your items
To ensure your items can be collected safely:
- bag electricals and textiles separately in standard carrier bags
- remove batteries from electrical items where possible
- place all bags next to your food waste caddy by 6am on your confirmed collection day
- ensure textiles are clean and dry
- do not leave items loose or unbagged
Alternative disposal options
If your items are too large, unsuitable, or still in good condition:
- Community Recycling Centres accept a wide range of electricals and textiles
- reuse charities may accept items in good working order
- Furniture Helpline can collect larger reusable household items
