Rent privately

Many people choose to rent privately because of the high costs of buying a property and the limited supply of council and housing association rented properties in Waverley.

Private renting can be expensive in Waverley. If you are on a low income or benefits, you may be able to get some Local Housing Allowance (LHA) to help you pay your rent.

The actual amount of help you get will depend upon the number of bedrooms you need and the amount of income and capital that you have.

The Deposit Guarantee Scheme may help you if you urgently need housing but do not have enough money to pay the deposit. You will need to meet certain conditions to qualify for our help.

If you qualify for help, we can issue a deposit bond to your prospective landlord in place of a cash deposit. The deposit bond has a maximum value of eight weeks rent, although we do not guarantee to provide the full amount for you. The amount you get will depends on your circumstances and budget available.
