Police and Crime Commissioner Election Thursday 2 May 2024

The next election for the Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner will take place on Thursday 2 May 2024.

The Surrey Police Area is made up of the 11 district/borough councils in the county, which have Local Returning Officers who are responsible for arranging and delivering the poll for the electors in their area.

The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) is responsible for:

  • Dealing with candidates and agents
  • The conduct of the poll
  • Collating the total result across the police authority area and declaring the result.

The PARO must remain politically neutral at all times. For this reason, we cannot provide political campaign information or details about the candidates on these pages.

The PARO for the Surrey Police Area is Mari Roberts-Wood (at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council).

The Local Returning Officer is Robin Taylor (at Waverley Borough Council).

Information from the candidates about their campaigns can be found on the choose my PCC website, after the close of nominations, when the candidates are confirmed.

If you are interested in standing as a candidate at the Police and Crime Commissioner elections to be held on 2 May 2024, please let Reigate and Banstead Borough Council know as soon as possible so they can add your contact details to our distribution list.  This will enable them to keep you up to date with information as it becomes available.

Please email PARO@reigate-banstead.gov.uk including your name, whether you are a prospective candidate or agent, contact e-mail address and telephone number(s). It would be helpful if you could put 'PCC Candidate details' in the subject line.

You can also read Home Office information about the role of a Police and Crime Commissioner

Your poll card will detail the polling station you that you can cast your vote at on Thursday 2 May 2024. You can also find your polling station on the where do vote I website.

What qualifications do I need to stand in the PCC election?

To be able to stand as a candidate at a Police and Crime Commissioner election in England (excluding London, Manchester and West Yorkshire) and Wales, you must be:

  • at least 18 years old on the day of your nomination
  • a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of a member state of the European Union,  and
  • registered as a local government elector in a local council area that is within the police area in which you wish to stand, both at the time of your nomination and on polling day.

An eligible Commonwealth citizen is a Commonwealth citizen who either:

  • does not need leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom, or
  • has indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom.

How do I submit my PCC nomination paper?

Nomination papers for the PCC election should be submitted for a pre-check before formal submission to: PARO@reigate-banstead.gov.uk

An appointment will then be made for you to formally submit your nomination papers.
