Holding events safely

It remains the organiser's responsibility to ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to protect the safety of those working or attending the event. The way to do this is to carry out a health and safety risk assessment, including the risk of COVID-19, and to take reasonable steps to mitigate the risks you identify.

This could include:

  • cleaning surfaces that people touch regularly
  • provision of hand sanitiser
  • identifying poorly-ventilated areas in the venue and taking steps to improve air flow
  • ensuring that staff and customers who are unwell do not attend the workplace or venue
  • communicating to staff and customers the measures you have put in place.

Beware of Covid-related scams

Criminals are using the Covid-19 pandemic to scam the public – don’t become a victim.

We have previouy received reports that businesses are receiving phishing emails related to business support grants. The email claims to come from ‘HMRC Government Gateway’. Business owners who have followed the ‘Claim now’ link have been tricked into providing the fraudsters with all the information required to make a successful application in their name.

This is just one example of Covid-related scams which emerged during the pandemic. Always remain viligant and report any suspected phishing emails to report@phishing.gov.uk
