Broadwater Park tree planting

Working together to create cooler, greener public spaces in Waverley

Waverley Borough Council is pleased to be part of this important collaborative project to enhance Broadwater Park and support long-term climate resilience across the borough.

Working with our partners Roots to the Future, Surrey County Council and the Greener Futures Team and the fantastic tree planting pupils from Broadwater School, we are increasing natural shade in the park by planting new trees that will make the space safer and more comfortable for visitors during hotter weather, while also strengthening local biodiversity.

This project builds on our commitment to creating greener, healthier and more climate‑resilient public spaces for residents, now and in the future.

Councillor Adam Duce, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said:

“Waverley Borough Council is proud to support this collaborative project, which helps deliver our commitment to a sustainable future. Enhancing our parks with natural shade not only makes these much-loved spaces safer and more comfortable during hotter weather, it also strengthens local biodiversity and supports long term climate resilience. These trees will create lasting benefits for families who use Broadwater Park today, as well as for generations to come.”

“Thanks to Roots for the Future, a fantastic organisation that brings people together to plant trees near to where they live, learn, work and play and the Broadwater School pupils who played such an active role on the day.”
