Waverley Borough Council is pleased to announce its application for planning permission to create 26 new, affordable homes at Springfield in Elstead. This exciting development is an investment of £9 million in the area, demolishing 10 older properties to make way for 16 additional affordable homes, designed to support the local community and provide much-needed additional affordable housing for Elstead.
The proposed development features a mix of modern housing styles, with a range of one, two, and three-bedroom homes, to meet the needs of both single tenants and growing families.
At the heart of this project is a strong commitment to sustainability and the environment. The development will feature green technologies, including solar panels for renewable energy, electric vehicle charging points, and energy-efficient LED lighting. Air Source Heat Pumps will provide highly efficient heating, while double glazing ensures that every home remains both energy-efficient and comfortable in the face of rising temperatures. In addition to reducing carbon footprints, the project will also enhance the local natural environment, achieving a significant 11% biodiversity net gain.
The Springfield site has been thoughtfully designed ensuring the new homes are in keeping with the character of Elstead. The development will include off-street parking to ease congestion in the area, and private gardens for the houses and maisonettes, while the flats will benefit from beautiful communal outdoor spaces.
The council’s design team has worked together with Surrey County Council, the lead flood authority, to ensure the development will help mitigate any localised flooding issues in the area. The design prioritises both the safety and wellbeing of residents, as well as the protection of the surrounding environment.
The scheme will also see the relocation of the local play area from The Quillets to the new development, providing a wider range of recreational activities for the community.
Councillor Janet Crowe, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing (Delivery), shared her enthusiasm for the project:
“We’re excited to bring 26 new affordable homes to Elstead, as we know how crucial high-quality housing is for the wellbeing of our community. Springfield is currently an underutilised site, and by regenerating it, we can provide much-needed homes for local people.
“We’ve listened closely to the community throughout the design process, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Residents are particularly excited about the environmental benefits of the new homes, and I’m proud that we’ve included so many energy-saving features that not only protect the planet but will also help our tenants save on their energy bills. We’re also committed to sustainability by recycling 90% of the materials from the demolished homes.”
