Waverley Borough Council is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted for a major national award in The MJ Achievement Awards 2026.
Following Phase 1 of the judging process, Waverley’s submission in the Financial Management & Collaboration - Local Government Finance Team has been officially shortlisted.
The entry highlights the council’s strengthened financial management, innovative approaches to shared expertise, and the strong foundations developed to support long‑term financial resilience.
As part of the next stage of the awards process, the Council will present to the judging panel and the winners will be announced in the summer.
Judges commented: "The Waverley Borough Council Finance Team has delivered exemplary financial stewardship, combining balanced budgets, sector-leading accounts performance and innovative member engagement. Their transparent reporting, carbon pricing initiative and strong collaborative culture demonstrate professionalism and forward thinking, providing a resilient foundation amid reorganisation and sector-wide financial uncertainty."

In addition, Guildford Borough Council has been shortlisted for ‘Most Improved Council’ at the LGC Awards 2026 and the Senior Leadership Team of the Year at the MJ Achievement Awards 2026, reflecting significant organisational progress and transformation during the past year.
Both councils continue to work in partnership across a number of services, strengthening resilience and delivering improvements for their communities.
