Waverley Borough Council issues latest Call for Sites

Waverley Borough Council is inviting further site suggestions from landowners and residents as it carries out another Call for Sites for its new Local Plan.

The new Call for Sites follows changes to national planning policy, which have significantly increased the number of homes that must be built in Waverley. The Government’s housing target for the borough has risen from 710 to 1,458 new homes each year. The council does not believe that it can accommodate this number, however it is important that no stone is left unturned in the attempt to identify additional land that could be considered for housing and other uses.

The Call for Sites is part of preparing a new Local Plan, which will guide where new homes, jobs and community facilities could be located over the next 20 years.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development, said:

“Waverley faces a huge increase in the number of new homes the Government expects us to deliver. We do not believe that we can accommodate this number, but we must explore all potential opportunities for land, while ensuring that any growth is balanced with the need to protect our environment, infrastructure and communities.

“This Call for Sites is not about approving development but about identifying land that could be considered as we prepare our new Local Plan.”

Sites can be put forward for a range of uses, including housing, employment, retail, renewable energy, community facilities, green space and biodiversity projects.

The latest Call for Sites runs from Friday 12 September to Friday 24 October 2025 and is intended for new sites not already submitted in last process.

There is no minimum size for submissions, although only housing sites capable of delivering more than 10 homes will be assessed for inclusion in the Local Plan.

Further details, including the submission form, are available at: www.waverley.gov.uk/callforsites
