Waverley Borough Council is joining district and borough councils across Surrey to support a free online webinar for private landlords and letting agents, taking place on Wednesday 11 March, 6.00pm to 8.30pm.
The Surrey-wide event, coordinated by Mole Valley District Council on behalf of the county’s 11 district and borough councils, will provide important updates on the forthcoming Renters’ Rights Act, which is due to come into force on 1 May 2026. The session is designed to help landlords understand the new legislation and support the continued delivery of safe, secure and high-quality homes across Surrey.
The Act will introduce a number of significant changes for landlords, including the end of “no fault” evictions and fixed-term tenancies, new rules on rent increases, updated requirements for advertising rental properties, and clearer guidance around tenants keeping pets in rented homes.
The webinar will feature expert speaker Tessa Shepperson, a solicitor specialising in landlord and tenant law for more than 25 years. Tessa provides training and guidance across the property sector and runs a long-standing online Landlord Law service supporting landlords and letting professionals nationwide.
The event is free to attend and open to all private landlords and letting agents operating in Surrey, including those who rent property in the county but live elsewhere. Attendees will also hear about future in-person landlord forums taking place across Surrey districts and boroughs. A selection of questions will be answered during the session, with further responses to common queries published online after the event.
Councillor Tony Fairclough, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Enforcement and Regulatory Services, said:
“The Renters’ Rights Act represents one of the biggest changes to the private rented sector in a generation, and it is vital that landlords feel informed, prepared and supported ahead of its introduction.
“This Surrey-wide webinar is a fantastic example of councils working together to provide clear, practical guidance for landlords and letting agents. By helping landlords understand the new requirements, we can work collaboratively to raise standards, improve security for tenants and ensure good-quality homes continue to be available for residents across Waverley and the wider Surrey area.
“I would strongly encourage all landlords and letting professionals connected to Waverley to take advantage of this free event.”
