Residents are invited to take a closer look at plans for 13 new affordable homes in the heart of Godalming and share their feedback before a planning application is submitted later this year.
Waverley Borough Council will be hosting a drop-in session at the Wilfred Noyce Community Centre (GU7 1DY) on Tuesday 15 September 2026, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm. Visitors can explore the plans and speak directly with the project team about the proposal.
Residents who can’t attend in person can still share their views by completing the online survey, open from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 27 September 2026.
About the new homes
The new homes will be built on the brownfield land to the rear of 69 High Street. They will provide a mix of studio, one‑bed and two‑bed apartments at affordable rent levels for residents on Waverley Borough Council’s Housing Register. The council is also working with Homes England to explore funding options to support the scheme.
Co-Portfolio Holder for Housing, Janet Crowe, said: “These new homes will make a real difference to people in Godalming who are struggling to find somewhere affordable to live. I encourage residents, who want to know more about the plans, to pop by the Wilfred Noyce Community Centre on Tuesday 15 September if they can – and to take part in our online survey.”
Alongside providing much‑needed homes, the scheme has been designed with environmental responsibility in mind. This includes solar panels on the roof, which will provide renewable energy directly for use in the new development, reducing the electricity costs for residents and supporting the council’s low‑carbon goals. Green roofs, swift bricks, bee bricks, bat boxes and new planting will support local wildlife.
This housing scheme forms the second phase of the wider 69 High Street project. Work on the first phase - the commercial development that enables the housing element - has already begun, with café and bar operator Loungers confirmed as the incoming tenant.
By combining new homes with a commercial space on the High Street, the project is set to bring more life to the town centre through increased footfall and local spending.
Public engagement and next steps
Following the drop-in session and the results from the online survey, the council will submit a planning application, where residents will also have the opportunity to take part in the formal planning consultation process.
