Waverley Borough Council has shared a series of new videos highlighting the difference its home energy retrofit programme is making to residents across the borough.
The short films are produced by Salix Finance, the organisation that supports the delivery of government funding to councils and social housing providers on behalf of the Department for Energy and Net Zero. The videos feature residents, councillors and housing officers talking about how the energy-efficiency improvement works are enhancing homes and lives.
The videos showcase the benefits of the Government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, which is helping Waverley Borough Council upgrade homes with better insulation, solar panels, and other energy-saving measures.
The council has already upgraded 59 homes through Wave 2.2 of the fund and, thanks to over £2 million in new government funding and a further £3 million contributed by the council, will extend improvements to a further 270 homes across Waverley over the next three years.
Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said:
"These films show the very real impact this programme is having on our tenants, warmer homes, lower bills and reduced carbon emissions. We know many families are struggling to keep their homes warm during the cost-of-living crisis, and these improvements will help reduce fuel poverty, improve comfort and boost wellbeing."
Councillor Paul Rivers, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing Operations and Services, added:
"It's fantastic to see our residents telling their stories on film, it's a people-first approach to housing in action.
"I'd also like to thank our housing team, who worked tirelessly to secure this government funding and ensure it benefits as many residents as possible. Their hard work means hundreds more Waverley households will enjoy warmer, more energy-efficient homes in the years ahead. This isn't just about bricks and mortar, it's about improving quality of life for our tenants and making a lasting difference in our communities."
