New business crime reporting system to launch across Waverley

Waverley Borough Council’s Economic Development and Community Safety teams are working in partnership with Cranleigh and Godalming Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and Haslemere Chamber of Commerce to introduce the Disc crime information-sharing system to local high streets at the end of March/early April.

Disc is a secure digital platform that enables businesses to report and share information about crimes and anti-social behaviour. The system will feed directly into police databases, helping to improve reporting rates, build intelligence, and act as a deterrent to repeat offenders.

Launch events are planned for Cranleigh, Godalming, and Haslemere throughout March and early April, where businesses can learn more about how to get involved.  Cranleigh kicks off the launch of this initiative at their BID Impact Report presentation evening on March 9th

Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Portfolio Holder for Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, said:

"We’re proud to be working with our local business communities to bring Disc to Waverley. Whilst Waverley remains a safe place to live and work, incidents such as shoplifting often go unreported. By adopting Disc, local businesses will be better equipped to share information and protect their premises. The initiative draws on the success of Experience Guildford, which has used Disc for over a decade to strengthen community safety and business resilience. It’s a smart, collaborative step forward in keeping our high streets safe and welcoming for everyone."

Cranleigh BID Project Manager Christine Martin, added:

“Cranleigh and Godalming BIDs and Haslemere Chamber of Trade and Commerce are proud to be launching Disc, the national business Crime Reporting System shortly. This has been made possible with the support and sponsorship from the Economic Development Team at Waverley Borough Council. We believe that this is going to be a ‘game changer’ for businesses when reporting anti-social behaviour, especially shoplifting which we all know is on the increase.”
