Waverley Borough Council has, once again, hosted its annual What Next? Climate Action Workshops, this year inspired by COP30, at The Burys in Godalming.
Students from Broadwater School and Godalming College took part in interactive sessions led by What Next?, a local organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the climate and ecological emergency and encouraging sustainable living.
The workshops included a climate policy simulator, challenging students to identify global strategies to keep temperature rises below 2°C and as close to 1.5°C as possible.
Councillor Paul Follows, Leader of Waverley Borough Council, said:
"We’re proud to host these workshops again and give local students the chance to explore real solutions to the climate crisis. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face, and as a council we’re committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030. Young people will shape the future, so it’s vital they have opportunities like this to learn, debate and share ideas. A big thank you to What Next? for delivering such inspiring and interactive sessions."
Dr David Faraday, Chair of Trustees, What Next?, added:
“It was a delight for us to, once again, run Climate Action Workshops for students from Broadwater School and Godalming College. Their enthusiasm to explore the issues related to climate change and their engagement in the complex realities of climate negotiations was a credit to the students themselves, their teachers and the respective institutions.”
