Cllr Steve Williams, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said:
“As a council working towards carbon neutrality by 2030, sustainability is one of our top five priorities. We’re reducing carbon emissions from our leisure centres, rolling out more electric vehicle charging points, planting trees and hedgerows, boosting biodiversity in our green spaces and much more.
“But real change happens when we all get involved — and that’s what Great Big Green Week is all about. I encourage residents to take a look at what is going on around the borough and take part in one of the many fun and informative activities on offer such as the Climate Action Workshop that What Next? will be running and we are happy to be hosting at The Burys on the 13 June.”
Waverley’s sustainable initiatives include:
· Reducing carbon emissions from our leisure centres
· Investing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure
· Enhancing green spaces and biodiversity
· Improving the energy performance of council homes
· Supporting local businesses to become more sustainable
· Supporting the Take the Jump campaign — simple lifestyle shifts for a greener planet
