Tom Horwood has been permanently appointed as the new, full-time Chief Executive of Waverley Borough Council.

During a special meeting of Waverley’s Full Council last night, members unanimously agreed to appoint Mr Horwood to the top role.

Prior to the meeting, Mr Horwood took part in a rigorous selection process, under the support of Solace in Business, in order to be considered for the position. This included an interview by a selection panel, comprising the leader of the council, members of the Executive Committee and the leader of the minority party, which made a unanimous decision that Mr Horwood was the right person for the job.

Mr Horwood has been working as interim managing director at Waverley Borough Council since August 2017. This was on a part-time arrangement with East Hampshire District Council and Havant Borough Council, where he held the position of Executive Director.

As well as Chief Executive, Tom will take on the council’s statutory roles of Head of Paid Service, Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer.
