A Waverley Councillor has been mentioned in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to the community in Ewhurst, Surrey.
Councillor Val Henry, who receives the British Empire Medal, has served on the council since 2015, however, also stood as a Borough Councillor from 1995 to 1999. Councillor Henry has also been an active Parish Councillor for Ewhurst and Ellens Green Parish Council since 1999 and is currently Chairman.
Councillor Henry said: “I stand amazed. It is indeed a huge honour to be included in the list alongside so many incredible people who have done so much, particularly through the Covid pandemic. As a councillor I have the opportunity to meet so many people throughout the community and have been amazed at their dedication to others and cheerful resilience. I am a people person and am wholly in my element working alongside residents, and being active within the community.”
Aside from roles on the Eastern Area Planning Committee, Joint Planning Committee and Overview and Scrutiny – Community Wellbeing, Val is also Trustee of the Ewart Bequest Trust and Shottermill Recreation Ground Trust.
A keen church musician, Val is also Director of Music at Ewhurst Parish Church.
