Legal action taken to move travellers

Waverley Borough Council has moved on travellers who set up an illegal encampment at Dogflud Car Park in Farnham last week.

Paul Wenham, Executive Director at Waverley Borough Council, said: “The council was made aware of the camp on 6 April and officers visited the camp to undertake the appropriate welfare checks.  The following day (7 April) the council served a Section 77 notice, directing those on site to leave by 8 April.

“Legal action was initiated as the travellers refused to move on.  The council was in Staines Magistrates’ Court yesterday (12 April) and enforcement action was taken immediately to evict the travellers using professional bailiffs.

“It is costly for the council to do this but we have to work within the confines of the law".

The council has cleaned the site of items left behind.
