Coronavirus advice and information

Buildings of local merit

Waverley has a "list of buildings of townscape, landmark or local historic merit" which do not meet the Department of National Heritage's current national standards for statutory Listing but which, in our view, are nonetheless worth conserving for their local architectural or historic interest.

Buildings of local merit should be protected and conserved.

Is my building a building of local merit?

Please use the Waverley Planning Maps to establish if your building is a building of local merit (BLM).

Alterations and extensions to buildings of local merit

If you own a BLM and wish to make alterations which require planning permission, it is a good idea to discuss your proposals on the basis of sketch drawings with our planning officers the officers.  Find out more about our Pre Application Advisory Service.

Unless an Article 4 is served, BLMs still benefit from permitted development rights.
