Affordable home ownership

If you want to purchase a home of your own, but can't afford to buy on the open market, then you may be eligible for affordable home ownership.  There are many different models of affordable home ownership available, including shared equity, discounted market sale and shared ownership.  In Waverley, shared ownership is the most common.

Shared ownership means buying a share of your home (between 25% and 75%) and paying rent on the rest.

You can buy a new home through shared ownership if your household income is less than £80,000 and any of the following apply:

  • you’re a first time buyer
  • you used to own a home, but can’t afford to buy one now
  • you’re an existing shared owner.
