Council Tax Support

Find out more about Council Tax Support and how to apply for help with your Council Tax bill.

About Council Tax Support

If you pay Council Tax on your home and you are on a low income, you may be able to get help paying your bill.

If you are entitled to help, we will pay the Council Tax Support directly onto your Council Tax account for the whole year. This means you will get a reduced Council Tax bill.

Who can get Council Tax Support

Anyone who has to pay Council Tax can apply for Council Tax Support. We will carry out a means test to see if you are eligible to get it.

If you have more than £16,000 in capital, you will not qualify for Council Tax Support.

How to apply for Council Tax Support

Please call 01483 523596 to make a new claim.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we are no longer meeting people face-to-face. You will be asked to send information by post, email, or over the phone:

The date we use for the start of your claim is the Monday after the date we receive your application form. In certain circumstances, we may be able to pay from an earlier date.

We send out new Council Tax Bills in March each year, but if you have any changes to your support during the year, you will get a new bill each time.
