Activities for over 50s

Staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is very important at all stages in life.

Leading a healthier, more active lifestyle doesn't necessarily mean going to the gym, it could be brisk walking, swimming, ballroom dancing or golf. There are a wide range of activities and courses available within Waverley to ensure that everyone can enjoy keeping fit.

Walking Football

Walking Football is a slow-paced version of the game. Aimed at (but not limited to) over 50s; those coming back from injury or those with a lack of mobility, walking football looks to provide the opportunity to get back into the game. 

In partneship with Places Leisure, Waverley Borough Council hosts two weekly walking football sessions.

Bowls is an exciting and competitive sport where you can have fun, relax and meet new friends. There are 11 bowls clubs throughout Waverley who are always welcoming new members to join up. Get involved in "roll-up" evenings, friendlies and even league games. Don't forget about the socials too!

Swimming courses

Swimming courses are available at Waverley's Leisure Centres. The courses are suitable for those over 50 years, to learn how to swim or gain water confidence.

Free swimming offer

Anyone aged over 80 (or under 8) can swim for free at any of our leisure centres. You can swim for free at a range of sessions including all public/general swim sessions, lane swimming and ladies only sessions.

Walks for Health

Walks for Health are your opportunity to enjoy your local environment whilst meeting other people. Walks take pace of the slowest person, but the aim is increase your heart rate and to get you active. Walk locations include Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere.

Fit for Life 60+

Fit for Life 60+ are exercise classes designed to increase strength, flexibility and circulation in a fun and friendly environment for people over 60. Classes take place Monday to Friday and are run by Places Leisure.

Groups and classes to reduce ill health

Our leisure centres in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere offer a range of classes intended for different groups. These include stroke groups; fit heart groups specifically designed for those following heart surgery; and falls prevention groups to help strength and balance to improve confidence and reduce the risk of falls.

Cage cricket

A new Dementia-friendly cage cricket session has launched at Farnham Leisure Centre. The sessions will run weekly on a Thursday, 12-1pm and is suitable for all abilities and all levels of mobility. Cage Cricket is dynamic, visual, high octane entertainment fused with the attitude of youth culture and extreme sports. Played in an enclosed space at a fast pace and embracing cutting edge technology, Cage Cricket is the ultimate in 21st century sporting theatre.
