Aids and adaptations

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide which aids and adaptations are carried out?

We will ask you to complete an application form. We will then carry out a professional assessments, an occupational therapist carries out this assessment and sends us recommendations.

We will then decide whether your home is suitable for the the adaptations required.

If it isn't, it may be more reasonable and practicable to carry out the adaptations to another property and for you to move home. If you don't want to move, we may only be able to carry out minor works.

Other questions

If I am in rent arrears, will my adaptation still be approved?

This will depend on the amount of rent arrears you have, and if you are paying them off. If you are sticking to your agreed plan to reduce your arrears, then normally we will still give permission for them to proceed. If you are not sticking to your payment plan, then we may not approve your application until your rent arrears are reduced or cleared. We will look into each case individually.
