Changes to council services

Our main objective during the coronavirus outbreak is to arrange our resources to support the immediate health, wellbeing and safety of local residents, particularly the vulnerable.

This page was updated on 12 May 2020 to reflect current government guidance.

Office closure

Our offices are closed to the general public, although we are making special provision for homelessness and welfare visits.

Where possible, staff will be working from home, so please contact us online, by email, or phone.

Parks

Our parks are open and car parks in Waverley parks will open from 13 May 2020.

Please act responsibly and observe social distancing measures when you are out and about:

  • keep 2m distance from other visitors
  • only go out with people you live with or meet one other person from a different household 

Frensham Great Pond

The car park at Frensham Great Pond and Common is open from 13 May 2020 but the cafe remains closed.


Tennis courts, ball courts (MUGAs), golf courses and fishing - open from 13 May

From 13 May, Waverley managed tennis courts, ball courts, golf courses and fishing rights will be open.

Please act responsibly and observe social distancing measures:

  • use them with people you live with or
  • use them with one other person while staying 2 metres apart.

Playgrounds, skateparks and trim trails - still closed

Playgrounds, skateparks, outdoor gyms, trim trails and ticketed entry to leisure and indoor leisure activities remain closed, following government guidance.

Planning service

Site visits, the Planning Reception service and Householder surgeries for pre-application planning advice are suspended, in line with the government's rules on social distancing.

The Planning reception is taking calls 10am - 2pm, Monday to Friday.

The work on the Local Plan Part 2 has been deferred.

We will be using video conferencing to facilitate Planning Committee meetings. See Council meetings for more details


Bulky waste collection service

Due to new government guidance around Coronavirus, the bulky waste collection service has closed but a temporary service, available via Guildford Borough Council, is now in place.


Car parks

We have temporarily suspended parking enforcement in all of our car parks. You will not need to buy a ticket while the temporary measures are in place.

Resident car parking permits

New permits and renewals will not be issued until further notice.

All existing permits will be extended until further notice and residents will be able to park without the need for a permit.

Residents with existing permits will be contacted when services return to normal to arrange renewals.

Parking on roads

On street restrictions are still in place to protect emergency access.


Cancelled events

Events have been cancelled at the:

  • Borough Hall in Godalming - including all cinema showings
  • Memorial Hall in Farnham

These events have also been cancelled:

  • Countryside volunteering events
  • The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games 2020
  • Other events organised by our leisure teams.

Leisure centres closed

Our leisure centes in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere are closed.


Day centres closed

The following day centres are closed:

  • The Clockhouse in Milford
  • Rowleys Centre in Cranleigh
  • Brightwells Gostrey Community Centre in Farnham
  • Farncombe Day Centre
  • Haslewey Community Centre in Haslemere

Council committee meetings

Following changes to government rules, we will be using video conferencing to hold all necessary council and committee meetings for the immediate future. See Council meetings for more details.


Council housing

Maintenance

Housing maintenance services will prioritise immediate health, wellbeing and safety of local residents, particularly the vulnerable, in line with the main objective. Non-essential work (such as new kitchens) is suspended.

Lettings, mutual exchanges and home visits suspended

We have suspended:

  • letting properties, including mutual exchanges
  • home visits

Building Control

We are using digital technology such as Facetime and Whatsapp to ensure we are delivering our service as we cannot visit on site.

Local Land Charges searches

We are operating a reduced service for land charges. You can still request land searches but they will take longer to process.

GATE Job Clubs

GATE Job Club meetings at the Upper Hale and The Farnham Town Council Offices have stopped.

GATE will continue employment support on CVs remotely, answering questions, providing information sheets and general information via email, telephone and website until they can safely resume regular meetings.
