About the Housing service

Waverley’s Housing service covers an incredible variety of services: from housing management to housing delivery to supported housing.

If you want to make a positive difference to how Housing is managed and delivered, the Waverley Housing team provides many opportunities.

In 2012, Waverley was at the forefront of a national campaign to change the way that Housing was financed by Government and was successful in bringing about change and securing finance for the ongoing management and delivery of housing in the borough.

In 2015, the outstanding strategic leadership of the Housing function was recognised in the UK Housing Awards, where Waverley was a finalist.

The Housing team is divided across two distinct functions: Housing Operations and Strategic Housing and Delivery.

Waverley is landlord to some 5,000 individuals and families. Being a provider of social housing is a crucial aspect of what the council does. Waverley has a 30 year business plan that provides considerable financial certainty on which to deliver our ambitious improvement programme.

Strategic Housing and delivery have a pivotal role in the planning and provision of social housing. We work with landowners, developers and housing associations to encourage the development of new social housing.

Our priorities

Working in our Housing team you will have the opportunity to deliver on ambitious plans for the future and be involved in projects and activities that support the vision for our borough for years to come.


Waverley has allocated £10 million towards regenerating a key part of the borough, which involves demolishing existing properties and creating high quality, modern homes that better reflect the needs and aspirations of the local community. This project involves officers from across a range of services working together to bring about change. Planning permission has been secured and a comprehensive community engagement programme and delivery plan established.

Building and renewing council houses

We have embarked on an programme of council house building and renewal is in progress, we are working in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency, developers and other housing providers. £6 million investment (four times the level of investment possible just four years ago) is secured into existing housing stock of some 5,000 properties.

Supporting our customers

We are also investing in the latest technology to streamline our routine activities to enable us to spend more time supporting our customers.

Providing first class support services to tenants and Waverley residents with a range of innovative and high quality tenancy support programmes including Easy Move, Family Support Services, rent and income support.

Progressing your career in Housing

Whether you join us as a trainee, a manager or anything in between, Waverley is committed to your development.

You’ll have regular 1:2:1 meetings with your manager to discuss your performance and development needs.

You’ll also attend regular team meetings to keep you informed of current business matters and be encouraged to attend and engage with our monthly all Housing staff meetings and our council-wide staff briefings and conferences.

Housing professionals

Housing professionals need to stay up-to-date with developments in the sector, keep abreast of current issues and consider a range of ways to develop new skills and knowledge.

Waverley supports its housing professionals in a number of ways including:
