Staff benefits

We recognise the importance of a good work-life balance and want to make sure all our staff feel supported and appreciated.

As an employee of the council there are many benefits you will get on top of your salary.

Holidays and flexitime

Waverley offers all our employees a generous annual leave allowance and staff also are entitled to flexitime where time is accrued. They can also apply for flexible working.


The basic annual leave entitlement varies according to the grade of the job. Check the documents attached to a job advert for the specific holiday entitlement.

The minimum entitlement for a full time member of staff is 22 days (plus bank holidays and three extra days between Christmas and New Year).

This rises to 27 days after five years of continuous local government service.

Flexible working

Waverley operates a flexible working hours scheme to support your work life balance. The offices are open to the public from 8.45 am to 5.15 pm (4.45 pm on Fridays) and staff are able to work flexibly, with agreement from their manager, from 7.15 am to 7.00 pm.


You can also accrue flexitime (subject to authorisation) so that you can add to your holiday entitlement and / or take some time back in emergencies or for unplanned events.

You can take up to 13 flexi days a year (pro rata) provided, with your manager's agreement, you have worked sufficient hours and it's not essential for you to be at work during that time.


Everyone is automatically opted into the pension scheme.

Employee contributions will depend on annual pay and range from 5.5% to 10.5% of gross salary, depending on the pay band.  Waverley contributes 16.5% of your salary to your pension.

The scheme provides a range of excellent benefits including a pension based on final salary, life insurance and dependants' benefits. It is also secure because its benefits are defined and guaranteed in law.
