    Mitch Benn

A stalwart of BBC Radio 4's Now Show for more than a decade, Mitch has also presented many radio specials. Following on from the success of Mitch Benn Is The 37th Beatle, a further three specials on music icons Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Elvis have been broadcast – The Freewheelin Mitch Benn, Mitch Benn Is The Fat Pink Duke and Mitch Benn Has Left The Building. He also co-presented with Harry Shearer BBC Radio 2's Anatomy Of A Guitar and presented Spank The Plank for BBC Radio 4. He also appeared on (and won) BBC1 television's Celebrity Mastermind!

    Matt Rees

Multi-award-winning Welsh comedian, Matt Rees, has generated a huge buzz on the circuit over the past few years with his unique brand of well-crafted gags and acerbic delivery earning him high praise from audiences and critics alike.

The deadpan stand-up is a sober drunk and a couple of years ago he had to take a break from comedy to deal with his personal matters, but now he’s back and taking the comedy scene by storm once more. As well as starring in BBC3’s This Country and BBC’s Edinburgh Fringe Highlights, Matt has also recently recorded an episode of BBC2’s Stand Up at BBC Wales, Amazon’s Audible Presents and Stand Up For BBC Radio Wales.

The rising star has won a whole host of awards including Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year, Leicester Square Comedian of The Year, Welsh Unsigned Act of The Year and Loaded LAFTAs, as well as being nominated for Chortle Best Newcomer.

Matt works across the board of the top UK clubs, such as The Comedy Store and the Glee Club and has also been feature at the leading comedy/music festivals such as Latitude, Reading, Leeds, Green Man and the fantastically off-beat Welsh festival, Machynlleth Comedy Fest. Matt has also provided tour support for the likes of Joe Lycett, John Robins, Elis James, Patrick Kielty as well as Tig Notaro.

  • Maker in Focus: Janine Partington & exploring colour and line through mark-making into leather

    • Saturday, 15 June 2019 - Saturday, 27 July 2019 at 10:00 - 17:00
    • Location: New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey

This exhibition presents new leather wall panels, vessels and brooches by Janine Partington, one of our most popular makers, recently selected for the prestigious Collect Open.

Janine_Partington_Precarious_2018_23x18cm_carved_and_coloured_leather_panelJanine is best-known for her craft of enamelling with fresh, clean, contemporary design, also included in the show.

In June 2018, Janine completed a part-time MA in Design with distinction at the University of the West of England and she made the creative leap into working with a very traditional material, leather, in a fresh, contemporary and unique way.

Drawing on past experiences with printmaking, bookbinding and embroidery Janine has explored mark making through the carving and painting of leathers to create distinctive and appealing surfaces. Her pieces often become abstracted landscapes. However, her inner need for harmony means there is a deeply ingrained subconscious check that ensures a balanced final composition.
