Waverley Local Plan consultation closes 29 January

Waverley Borough Council is reminding residents, businesses and developers they need to give their views on the draft Local Plan Part 2 by 29 January 2021.

Local Plan Part 2: Site Allocations and Development Management Policies, is the second and final part of the borough’s Local Plan and sets out the policies that govern decisions on planning applications and allocates sites for housing in Haslemere and Witley, where individual Neighbourhood Plans are not doing so. Local Plan Part 2 will also set out the location of sites for Gypsies and Travellers and will review other land designations in the borough.

In order to minimise the impact of coronavirus on the consultation, the council has taken the decision to run it for nine weeks, rather than the statutory requirement of six weeks. You can comment on the document by submitting your views by midnight on Friday 29 January 2021.

The plan and supporting documents, as well as information on how to make a representation, will be available to view on the council’s website at: www.waverley.gov.uk/LPP2.

As the council offices are closed, hard copies of the documents will not be available for viewing, but other suitable arrangements can be made for those who are not able to view the documents electronically. Anyone wishing to make such arrangements should contact the council’s Planning Team on 01483 523291.

Councillor Andy Macleod, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Services said:

“There’s still plenty of time to share your views on the Plan by 29 January. We appreciate that the past several months have been very unusual and difficult times for our communities – and that commenting on our Local Plan Part 2 consultation may not have been top of many people’s priority list in December.

“But it is really important for the future of the borough that we get this right. We’ve put a huge amount of work into gathering evidence, consulting the public, landowners and developers, and working with local town and parish councils.

“We think that the Local Plan Part 2 is the best way to secure the sustainable and appropriate housing and economic growth the borough needs to thrive over the coming years, and to protect our environment, but we would welcome your thoughts on our new policies to guide future development and proposed land allocations.  I would encourage everyone to please take the time to get involved and have their say.”
