Refuse collections resume
Published Monday 25th January 10
Refuse and recycling collections are getting back to normal this week following disruption caused by severe winter weather.
We would like to thank you for your patience during this difficult period of severe winter weather when we were unable to collect your refuse and recycling. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you.
We also understand that many of you are confused about what we are collecting and when, so we have put together the following information to help you:
When will we collect?
Collections began properly on Monday 18 January and our teams are picking up either your refuse or recycling on your normal collection day. So, if your normal collection is a Wednesday we should collect on Wednesday 20 January. Please be assured that any extra refuse or recycling will be collected during the weeks 18 and 25 January. We are aware that there is a backlog of waste and we will be sending out extra vehicles to deal with this. View the 2010 Refuse/recycling collection calendar.
Missed collections this week!
If your waste has not been collected on your usual scheduled collection day this week, please leave your refuse or recycling out and the crews will get to you as soon as they can on the following day. Though we are sending out extra vehicles to deal with the extra waste, long queues at the central disposal site could cause delays in completing the day's collection rounds.
Do I put out refuse or recycling?
If you are unsure whether to put out refuse or recycling select the Check your bin collection day link and enter your road name to find out whether you are due to have your refuse or recycling picked up. If you are still unsure about when we will be collecting from your house, please call 01483 523524 during office hours.
Will you collect extra waste?
Yes. We will collect extra recycling on your recycling collection day. Please put extra recyclables into open bin bags, except glass, which should be placed in a rigid container in case of breakages. We will collect extra refuse on your refuse collection day, just place any extra bin bags beside your wheelie bin.
Can I get rid of refuse now if I am due a recycling pick up next week?
- You can take your waste to your nearest tip - see Surrey County Council's website for recycling sites across Surrey.
Thank you for your patience
We are really trying our best to get the waste collections back to normal. We can understand your frustration that refuse may not have been collected for more than two weeks in some areas. Please be assured that our crews are working as hard as possible to try and clear your waste as quickly as possible.
